I'm, sorry that I have to do this.

This is my first forums site so I'm still learning the ropes. As time goes on, I may learn more about controlling spam and how to control it, then open things up again.

You should have noticed the 'RSS' button in the menu by now. You should also appreciate how ugly it is and how it doesn't really fit with anything. Even the color is off a little.

You can subscribe to the contents of this forum by clicking that link.

In all honesty, getting the RSS link into your application of choice hasn't been fully worked out yet, but if you know what you're doing, you should know what to do with that link.

Where do you buy good crab traps? I've never actually seen them in a store so where do you go?

My mother in law has a place by the beach with some crab fishing holes and a simple, pedestrian crab trap. We tried it with some success but clearly some better equipment was needed. I figured some would pop up at a garage sale sometime.

Friday it happened. Three heavy traps made of re-bar and chicken wire for $25. Almost a steal. Can't wait for the next beach trip...

That's what I always here, sometimes its even, 'don't bother visiting sales after noon on Saturday.'

Typically, we go to garage sales after church on Sunday or even later, and we find a TON of great stuff. Plus, the later the day the more eager the seller is to bargain.

So don't be afraid to visit those sales at any time!

I have a program I wrote years ago to PASTE the garage sales from local paper, parse for address, and got the free census street database
for lat-lon of location, then plot for Saturday morning trips

Since Garage sales are only useful until they run, Sat morning paper (available at MIDNITE) only really good until NOON or when the sale ends.

After double clicking a series of garage sales, you can click 'Get Directions' in the title bar to generate a list of directions. After doing so, the 'Get Directions' button will change into a 'Clear Directions' button.

Occasionally, a garage sale will not 'compute' and the list of directions won't be generated. Simply remove the garage sales one by one until you find the bad one.

I think I know how to fix that, but it'll take some time.

I've been burnt by this a couple times so take notice.

I have a tendency to want to browse an entire sale, making mental notes of things I may want to purchase. After the survey is done, I'll go back and re-consider all the things I want. Unfortunately, I've lost a couple things I really wanted to competing garage-salers due to those thirty seconds of hesitation.

Grab what you think is interesting and walk around with it!

If you later decide its not worth it, simply put it back.

There�s a problem with generating directions. Sometimes, certain garage sales won�t �compute� and the result is no directions at all. If you can figure out which sale it is, you can remove it from the queue and directions will be generated. I�ll try to fix it the week of 9/10.

I have been producing local maps of garage sales for myself,
am wondering how I can upload my Google Earth KML file.

Or would you like it in a different format?

Directions to selected garage sales have been added! Simply double click garage sales in the order that you'd like to visit them, then click 'Get Directions.'

To remove a garage sale from the list, simply double click it again! Easy as cake.

About three times a year, a bunch of different concepts come together in my head at the same time forming a complete and compelling whole. A system who�s value is greater than the sum of its parts.

This site is the result of one of those moments, formed on the way to Grandma�s house with the kids.

I thought/hoped I�d be the first with the idea and implementation, but, as is the case in this competitive economy, there are almost always people smarter than you with the same idea�

No worries though, I had a lot of fun building the site and look forward to growing it.

The point of the site is primarily to allow its users to quickly discern the number and quality of garage sales around their area. That�s done easily by simply entering your address and clicking �Get Garage Sale Map.� You�ll be presented with a map of your area with all the garage sales marked with little red markers.

Hover your mouse over a marker to see its location. Click on it to see the title of the garage sale. Click �website� to see that garage sale�s web site. Finally, double click the garage sale to queue it up into a list of garage sales you�d like to visit. After queuing up a couple garage sales, click �Get Directions� at the top of the page to generate a list of driving directions.

That�s pretty much it. While simple, it�s quite powerful and fun.

Also, I�ve added these forums to discuss garage sales in general.

Please let me know what you think either by personal message on these forums. I hope to make this a vibrant community.
